Sigmund Freud largely viewed sibling relationships through the lens of rivalry, jealousy, and the extension of the Oedipus complex. He argued that siblings act as competitors for parental affection and resources, often viewing them as intruders, which intensifies early childhood hostility and shapes the development of personality and neuroses.
